How we work

How We Work for Advocacy

We work with bishops, pastors and congregations to develop and support the ministry of advocacy through an advocacy network. We inform that network on issues affecting the well-being of the people we serve in our communities.

We join hands with our advocacy partners within the ELCA to influence public policy through cooperation with the ELCA Washington, DC Office, ELCA State Public Policy Offices across the country, and the Lutheran Office for World Community at the United Nations.

We work collegially with interfaith organizations across California.

Direct Advocacy

The director of LOPP-CA lobbies on bills, testifies at hearings, and builds relationships with legislators. LOPP-CA lobbies for and encourages our ELCA members to join in discourse about legislation that reflects our values and call to love our neighbor.  In this sense we see ourselves more as advocates. We also support our national office in its advocacy on some federal legislation.
